Conduttrice della cerimonia di assegnazione dei premi, ha sorpreso tutti col suo ritorno discografico: il nuovo singolo di Alicia Keys Raise a Man è stato lanciato durante i Grammy 2019, nella notte tra il 10 e l’11 di febbraio.
Mentre era impegnata nel presentare gli Oscar della musica che hanno visto trionfare tra gli altri Lady Gaga, infatti, la Keys ha fatto uscire sul mercato Raise a Man, pubblicato sulle piattaforme digitali poco dopo la fine dei Grammy Awards, la cui conduzione le è valsa molte critiche positive.
Una scelta importante, quella del lancio di Raise a Man durante un evento dalla platea così vasta, in primis perché non era stato annunciato e in secondo luogo perché è la prima uscita di Alicia Keys dai tempi di Us, la sua partnership con James Bay che risale al maggio 2018.
Per quanto riguarda la sua carriera solista, la Keys ha pubblicato l’ultimo album all’inizio del 2016: sono passati dunque tre anni da Here, il suo sesto disco in studio, da cui sono stati tratti singoli come In Common e Blended Family (What You Do For Love).
In questi anni la cantautrice ha continuato a scrivere musica, ma è anche diventata mamma e ha continuato a farsi portavoce di battaglie sociali importanti, ad esempio aderendo al movimento Black Lives Matter o creando un progetto sostenere l’ingresso delle donne nel business discografico, per tutelare i loro diritti nel mondo della musica e ampliare le “quote rosa” di un settore ampiamente dominato dagli uomini sia nei ranghi dirigenziali che per numero di cantanti, autrici e compositrici.
E sicuramente la sua esperienza di madre ha ispirato il nuovo singolo Raise a Man (Crescere un uomo), come evidentemente indicato dalla copertina del brano che ha iniziato a campeggiare usi social network della cantante subito dopo la fine dei Grammy Awards 2019 per lanciare l’uscita della canzone.
