Il video di Family Feud di Jay-Z e Beyoncé è stato rilasciato nelle ultime ore di venerdì 29 dicembre in esclusiva assoluta su TIDAL, il servizio di streaming di cui il rapper e magnate di Rock Nation è proprietario.
Come tutte le release della coppia, la piattaforma che Jay-Z ha rilevato e gestisce dal 2016 (non senza difficoltà, considerati i venti di crisi che si sono manifestati sin dall’inizio di questa operazione), anche il video di Femily Feud è disponibile dunque solo per gli abbonati al servizio.
I contenuti di TIDAL sono però gratuiti per tutti fino al 5 gennaio, attivando sul sito un periodo di prova che richiede la semplice registrazione di un account senza obbligo di abbonamento.
Family Feud è uno dei brani più chiacchierati dell’album 4:44, che ha permesso a Jay-Z di figurare tra i più nominati per i premi Grammy dell’edizione 2018, con ben otto candidature. Anche stavolta Mr. Carter e consorte usano l’arte per esorcizzare i problemi familiari: in questo caso al centro della catarsi di coppia – chiaramente – ci sono i tradimenti ammessi pubblicamente da Jay-Z, che infatti appare nel video nell’atto di parlare alla moglie in un confessionale.
Il corto di 8 minuti vede protagonisti Jessica Chastain, Michael B. Jordan, Thandie Newton, America Ferrera, Brie Larson, Rashida Jones, Mindy Kaling and Rosario Dawson. Diretto da Ava DuVernay, questo mini-film copre oltre 400 anni di storia, raccontando a partire dal 2444 una serie di vicende shakespeariane di infedeltà, omicidi e complotti per il potere. Il video, realizzato da Flying Lotus, termina al giorno d’oggi in una chiesa in cui la piccola Blue Ivy, la figlia maggiore della coppia, appare mentre attraversa la navata della chiesa accompagnata dal padre e assiste alle sue confessioni. In un altro dei brani di 4:44, Jay-Z aveva ammesso che la sua principale preoccupazione riguardo la sua condotta sarebbe stato proprio il giudizio dei figli.
