La morte di Chester Benington ha sconvolto il mondo della musica. Dopo la tragica scomparsa di Chris Cornell dei Soundgarden, molto amico di Bennington, lo sconvolgente suicidio del leader dei Linkin Park ha segnato molti tra artisti e fan.
I Linkin Park sono attualmente chiusi in un rispettoso silenzio e hanno deciso di omaggiare Bennington con delle fotografie di performance sul palco, tra l’amore del pubblico, senza aggiungere alcuna parola di commento. È stato Mike Shinoda ieri sera a confermare la dolorosa notizia della morte di Bennington via Twitter:

Sono moltissimi gli artisti che hanno voluto omaggiare Bennington con un pensiero, ricordando il suo talento e l’immenso contributo dato al mondo della musica alternativa e del nu metal.
Tra questi ci sono gli Imagine Dragons, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake e Vicky Cornell, moglie di Chris Cornell che ha saputo che l’amico del marito si è tolto la vita proprio il giorno del suo compleanno. Chris Cornell avrebbe compiuto ieri 53 anni, Chester Bennington ne aveva 41.

Molto interessante il taglio che alcuni artisti hanno voluto dare al loro messaggio, ricordando quanto la depressione sia un male sotterraneo e invisibile che spesso porta ad essere sottovalutato e fonte di giudizi inopportuni.
Molti commenti alla tragedia sono stati caratterizzati da frasi come “Ma cosa gli mancava?”, alludendo ad una malattia che, agli occhi di chi non ha mai combattuto con la depressione, sembra impossibile possa affliggere chi dalla vita pare aver avuto tutto.
A rispondere sono stati molti artisti stessi, da Hailey Williams dei Paramore a Katy Perry, che ha pubblicato tra i tweet legati alla scomparsa di Bennington, anche il numero del servizio di prevenzione al suicidio. Le errate convinzioni sulla depressione portano a ritenere le persone di successo come immuni da un male, che purtroppo non bastano la fama e una vita agiata a non contrarre. Ricordiamo che Chester Bennington ha lottato per anni contro l’abuso di alcol e sostanze e aveva confidato in passato di aver già pensato di togliersi la vita a causa degli abusi subiti da un ragazzo più grande quando era bambino.
Molti dunque i messaggi sui social dei colleghi artisti, che hanno voluto sensibilizzare ancora una volta sull’argomento.
