L’omaggio a Paul Walker See You Again trionfa ai Critics’ Choice Awards su Lady Gaga e Sam Smith

Dopo essere stata snobbata alle nomination per gli Oscar, See You Again si prende la sua rivincita trionfando ai Critics’ Choice Awards 2016: nella cerimonia di premiazione dei riconoscimenti della critica assegnati in California domenica 17 gennaio la ballata di Wiz Khalifa e Charlie Puth ha vinto sui concorrenti come Miglior Canzone.

Colonna sonora di Furious 7, l’ultimo capitolo della saga di Fast And Furious, la canzone è un omaggio al defunto Paul Walker, l’attore protagonista del franchise insieme a Vin Diesel, morto nell’esplosione a seguito di un tragico incidente stradale nel 2014 proprio durante le riprese del film.

Tre giorni dopo essere stata esclusa dalla corsa all’Oscar, See You Again vince sui favoriti Til It Happens to You di Lady Gaga da The Hunting Ground  e Writing’s On The Wall di Sam Smith da Spectre (entrambi favoriti nella corsa per l’Oscar), Love Me Like You Do di Ellie Goulding dal film Cinquanta Sfumature di Grigio, One Kind of Love di Love & Mercy e Simple Song #3 da Youth.

La vittoria del brano non è stata presentata in diretta come gli altri premi ma è stata rivelata su Twitter dai premi. Si tratta di un risultato a suo modo storico, visto che l’ultima canzone di ispirazione hip-hop a vincere la statuetta d’oro è stata It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp dei Three 6 Mafia nel 2006.

Primo video hip-hop a raggiungere un miliardo di visualizzazioni su YouTube, da quando è stata rilasciata nel marzo 2015 See You Again ha battuto anche il record per il maggior numero di ascolti in streaming su Spotify in un solo giorno. Di recente ha spuntato anche una nomination ai Golden Globes e tre nomination ai Grammy Awards. Appena una settimana fa Vin Diesel la accennava sul palco dei People’s Choice Awards ritirando il premio per Furious 7 e dedicandolo proprio all’amico fraterno Paul Walker e alla famiglia di Fast and Furious.
