ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML, lo smartphone presentato al Mobile World Congress che ci aveva incuriosito alla luce di una scheda tecnica decisamente interessante rispetto al suo prezzo di vendita, riceve in maniera non ufficiale la CyanogenMod 12.1.
Nelle ultime settimane vi abbiamo mostrato come sbloccare il bootloader ed installare una custom recovery su Zenfone 2, operazioni necessarie per poter procedere all’installazione di una custom ROM, come ad esempio SuperZen e Zenitude.

Le due rom sono due versioni personalizzate della ROM di ASUS: contengono infatti alcune interessanti ottimizzazioni del sistema in generale – stabilità e durata della batteria in primis.

Sicuramente più interessante è porting di CyanogenMod 12.1, basato su Android 5.1 Lollipop. Si tratta di un firmware in sviluppo ma è importante notare come questo Zenfone 2 stia iniziando ad attirare l’attenzione della comunità di sviluppatori indipendenti. Le impressioni di chi ha testato personalmente la ROM sono positive; ovviamente il lavoro da svolgere per ottimizzare il codice è ancora lungo.
My phone feels as fast or faster than before, I haven’t had any hitches yet except when thermally throttled. I have also yet to find a feature that isn’t implemented (but according to github there is no smart cover support yet). The range of brightness seems to be higher, with the screen going darker and brighter, however I may just be hallucinating. According to /u/ansebovi this is correct
Note that it seems my CPU is often much hotter than under ZenUI, reaching 65C, however I will need to do some more testing in real use conditions instead of being in the sun with 10 apps installing in the background just after flashing a new rom.
UPDATE: After more use, I notice that the phone heats up a lot when being used while charging (non-quick charging). Just using the phone normally, it feels hotter than on ZenUI.

Non è da escludere che prima o poi anche il team ufficiale Cyanogen Inc. possa inserire lo ZenFone 2 nei device ufficialmente supportati.
