Con l’avvicinarsi del lancio del OnePlus 2, previsto per il terzo trimestre 2015, l’azienda sta cercando di aumentare l’interesse intorno alla prossima generazione del suo flagship killer: nella giornata di ieri, è stato svelato il processore che muoverà il OnePlus 2, il Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 – una scelta che ai più risulterà controversa.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 basa la sua innovazione non tanto sul numero di core, quanto sul miglioramento della performance – con qualche problema a dissipare il calore; il processore è realizzato con architettura big.LITTLE a 64-bit ed è costituito da quattro core ARM Cortex-A57 e quattro core ARM Cortex-A53 in grado di supportare la definizione 4K UHD e di registrare video in 4K @30fps o in FHD @120fps con sensori fino a 55 megapixel.
Pete Lau, CEO di OnePlus, ha spiegato che, dopo molti test e ripensamenti degli ingegneri coinvolti nello sviluppo di OnePlus 2, si sia sempre ritornato all’attuale processore top gamma di Qualcomm – nella versione v2.1, che dovrebbe garantire temperature inferiori rispetto alle prime versioni del processore. Oltre a ciò, OnePlus 2 vedrà implementata una pasta termica e strati di grafite posizionati lungo tutto il corpo dello smartphone in modo da evitare il surriscaldamento intorno all’area dove risiede il processore. Infine, OxygenOS integrerà una tecnologia proprietaria in grado di gestire tutti i vari incarichi destinati al processore in modo intelligente, sfruttando al massimo potenziale l’architettura big.LITTLE:

Just like we did with the OnePlus One, our engineers debated endlessly over which CPU would be the perfect fit for the 2. While we played around with other options, we always came back to the 810. Dubbed as the “ultimate connected computer processor”, the 810 v2.1 puts desktop-grade computing power into the palm of your hands. With eight CPU cores and 64-bit computing, we chose the 810 to be the driving force behind the OnePlus 2’s impressive specs. When paired with the 2, this means better video, a quicker camera, and an unbelievable gaming experience.

Although there have been reports that the 810 runs warmer than its predecessors, we assure you that we have taken all the necessary precautions and beyond to prevent this from occurring in the 2. We worked very closely with Qualcomm’s engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software. The 2 will be “cooler than ever”.
Inside the 2, the 810 consists of several CPU processors. Layered on top of these processors is both thermal gel and graphite placed across different areas of the phone. This graphite ensures that heat generated from the processors will dissipate evenly, as opposed to being concentrated and leading to performance issues. After rigorous testing, the 2 meets the industry standard for phone temperature, even with hours of use.
As for software, OxygenOS has been optimized to work beautifully with the Snapdragon 810. We’ve created a proprietary technology, which handles a variety of tasks for the chipset inside the 2. Of the aforementioned eight CPU processors, these vary in size for different tasks in the phone. For example, one or two of the larger processors would be used for graphics-heavy gaming, while in contrast, the small processor would be used for simple text messaging. In layman’s terms, one of our ROM’s features is to intuitively know which processor should be used for what task, and it avoids using two or more processors that are right next to each other.
The OnePlus 2 has been a long time in the making. To be quite honest, we’re excited about this one, and we’ll be revealing what’s inside the 2 piece by piece. The 2 packs some outstanding specs that need to be powered by more than just any processor, and we couldn’t be happier with our choice.
