Vanessa Hudgens e Ludacris sono i conduttori di quest’edizione, che si aprirà con la performance di Nicki Minaj insieme a Jason Derulo, David Guetta e Lil Wayne. Tra gli altri performer attesi, oltre a Miley Cyrus col nuovo singolo Malibu, ci sono Drake, Celine Dion (con una nuova versione di My Heart Will Go On due decenni dopo il suo debutto), Florida Georgia Line, Halsey, Sam Hunt, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Ed Sheeran. E ancora Camila Cabello, The Chainsmokers, Lorde. Cher, celebrata con l’assegnazione dell’Icon Award, è attesa con un’esibizione speciale.
Tra gli artisti favoriti in nomination spiccano anche quest’anno le regine Adele (potrebbe vincere come artista dell’anno) e Beyoncé (già vincitrice come artista femminile dell’anno e nelle categorie R&B, potrebbe essere suo anche l’album dell’anno per Lemonade), mentre Drake è il più quotato sia come artista maschile dell’anno che come miglior artista rap.

La cerimonia vera e propria sarà trasmessa esclusivamente su ABC e in streaming, disponibile però solo in territorio statunitense, a meno di non collegarsi su siti live stream non ufficiali. Sui canali social Facebook e Twitter saranno pubblicati aggiornamenti in tempo reale. L’inizio della serata alla Samsung T-mobile Arena di Las Vegas è previsto alle 08:00 ora locale (in Italia le 2:00 del mattino circa).
Le prime premiazioni sono già state annunciate: tra queste, Beyoncé premiata come miglior artista femminile e Drake che ha fatto incetta di statuette nelle categorie rap e in quelle legate alle vendite nelle varie classifiche Billboard.
